Among the symbols of the New Year and Christmas, the star can be called the most popular. She often adorns the top of the New Year tree, the Magi saw her as a sign of the coming of Jesus to earth, she looks like snowflakes gently falling outside the window on a winter evening, and even the flowers of the Christmas poinsettia resemble the outlines of this geometric figure. Therefore, a paper star stencil can be used to create winter decor and do-it-yourself themed room decoration.

How to make a star stencil?

To create paper stencils of stars, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • thick paper or cardboard - the required size will depend on the size of the template, but most of the options below will easily fit on an A4 sheet; do not use ordinary office paper, it is better to take material with a density of 200 g per 1 m22;
  • scissors and/or paper cutter - these tools must be sharp so that they can easily cut the material without leaving torn sloppy edges;
  • substrate - a special substrate will protect the table from scratches during operation, but if it is not there, then you canuse an ordinary wooden cutting board, only dry and clean.

As you can see from the above list, everything you need to create paper stars can be found in every home. The sequence of work will also be extremely simple:

  1. First, you should transfer your favorite drawing of a star to paper. This can be done in two ways. If you have a printer at hand, you can download any of the templates below for free and print it out. If this is not technically possible, you can redraw the star you like yourself or by attaching a sheet to the screen, carefully circle the drawing with a pencil along the contour without pressing on the screen.
  2. After that, all that remains is to cut out the stencil by laying the printout or drawing on a protective substrate. Ordinary scissors are suitable for contours and large details, but for cutting an asterisk with openwork monograms inside, you will need a special mock-up knife.

Star stencil can be done with your child, children usually enjoy this activity, but before you start work, you should devote a few minutes to safety when working with scissors and a cutter to avoid injury.

How to use paper stars to decorate your home?

3D paper stars are traditionally used to decorate windows in Sweden, often with small LED strings inserted into them to light up at night. You can try to make the same decoration, or you can connect stars of different sizes with a fishing line or thin but strongthread and make a garland in the form of a falling waterfall. Such a star waterfall is suitable for decorating windows or doorways.

Paper stencils are suitable as decorations for walls, ceilings or window panes. They can be painted and glued on different stars, making an imitation of the starry sky or recreating the plot of a winter fairy tale. Such stencils are also suitable for painting the walls themselves, if this is provided for by the design of the room (for example, in a nursery). To do this, you need to fix the templates on the surface with masking tape and apply a layer of paint on top, and carefully remove it after drying.

If you use paper stars as window glass decorations, you can easily stick them with ordinary soapy water. And in this case, it is better to apply a winter stencil drawing with inexpensive white toothpaste and a foam rubber sponge. Such methods will allow you to quickly and easily put the windows in order after the holidays.

A paper star stencil is a simple and affordable option for creating interior decorations and not only in the New Year or Christmas theme, so do not postpone the creative process until winter, it is better to start it early and with your children.
