According to legend, in his youth, the prince fell ill with leprosy as a result of a battle with a snake, whose blood fell on the body of a young man. The messengers have long been looking for doctors who can get rid of a terrible disease. In the village of Lyskovo near Ryazan, they found a young peasant woman, Efrosinya, or Fevronya, who could tame animals, treated with healing herbs. She promised to cure the prince, but on the condition that he would take her as his wife. Peter promised to marry after his recovery.
