Plants of the Pumpkin family, to which the zucchini belongs, are thermophilic, so planting for seedlings and in a greenhouse directly depends on the ambient temperature, soil. When choosing the timing, they are guided by weather conditions, varietal characteristics, the place of cultivation: open or closed ground. A gardening calendar will help you navigate the planting date in 2023, which takes into account favorable and unfavorable days for various jobs.

Growing conditions

For germination, seeds need a temperature of at least +8 ° C, but the higher it is, the less the germination period will take. The development of seedlings is active at +22-27 °C, the minimum temperature is from 15 to 18 °C. A strong stem is formed with a sufficient amount of light, with a lack of it, it stretches and weakens.

Seedlings planted in the ground grow well and develop at a temperature of +18-24 °С during the day and above +15 °С at night. Growth slows down at +10-12 °C, with slight frosts, chlorophyll is destroyed, all processes in the tissues stop, the plant dies.

The place is chosen sunny, protected from through winds. In the shade, the stems reach for the light, the pollen ripens worse, the fruits taste less sweet, the pulp has less dry matter.The yield and quality of fruits on fertile loose soils is higher than on dense, heavy ones.

Choice of dates

Seedlings are transplanted into an open bed at a time when the required temperature is established, the soil warms up to 10-12 ° C and return frosts are unlikely. In each locality, such conditions occur at different times, so there are no uniform terms.

The seedling is ready for transplanting at the age of 25-30 days, so this period must be subtracted from the estimated date of transplanting into the ground - we will get the date of planting zucchini for seedlings in 2023. If it is planned to land in a greenhouse or under a film, then the dates are shifted. Late-ripening varieties are suitable for long-term storage, which are sown immediately on the ridge in the first decade of June.

A month after germination, flowering begins, on the 7-12th day after flowering, you can remove the first dairy fruits with soft skin. Fruit formation goes on continuously until the first frosts.

Table of planting zucchini for seedlings by region:

III decade of April-I decade of May
III decade of April-I decade of May
III decade of February-I decade of March

If the climate is unstable, there is a danger of return frosts, then the seedlings are planted under cover. Planted in a greenhouse 1.5-2 weeks earlier, thenthere is at the same time make an amendment in the timing of sowing. The first two weeks it is necessary to cover the seedlings at night to protect them from low temperatures.

According to the lunar calendar

Plants that produce above-ground fruits, including zucchini, are recommended to be sown, planted, transplanted during the waxing moon. On the days of the new moon and full moon, you should not do planting work, you can devote this time to preparing the soil, containers, and equipment for the growing site.

If you sow at a favorable time, adhere to the rules of planting, then shoots will appear on time, seedlings will actively develop, which will allow them to be transplanted to the garden in a timely manner and get an early harvest.

Steps of planting

The quality of seedlings directly depends on the quality of seed material, soil, care. An important role is played by the preparation of seedling containers.

Preparation of seeds and soil

Seeds are best purchased at the store to know when they are packed, how long they are stored. In addition, the packaging indicatesvarietal characteristics, approximate dates of sowing and transplanting into the ground.

Seed preparation options:

    • soak 2-3 hours in warm water;
    • use growth stimulants for soaking according to the instructions (Energen, Epin, Zircon, HB-101);
    • germinate in a humid environment - moisten cotton napkins or cotton pads in warm water, wrap the seeds, keep at 22-26 ° C, moisten daily, after 3 days sprouts should appear (if not, then the seed is needed throw away).

    The root system of seedlings is quickly formed in moisture and breathable loose soil. Ready-made soil for seedlings of vegetable crops or a self-prepared soil mixture of non-acidic peat, humus, river sand (2: 1: 1) is suitable. After mixing, the soil is disinfected with a pink manganese solution or hot steam (water bath), then shed with a fungicide solution.

    Sow and go

    When picking, the roots are injured, poorly restored, which affects the timing of flowering, so it is better to immediately plant in individual containers. Suitable plastic cups, plastic containers with a volume of 500 ml - it is convenient to transfer the seedling into the ground from them, peat pots - they are planted on the ridge with them. Drainage holes must be made in the bottom.

    How to sow:

    • construct a drainage layer (1.5 cm) of perlite;
    • pour the soil, leaving 1.5 cm to the edge;
    • place the seed at a depth of 2-3 cm, water;
    • cover the container with a film, a lid,put in a warm, bright room.

    The optimal temperature after sowing is + 20-25 ° C during the day, + 15-17 ° C at night. After the emergence of sprouts, the temperature during the day is maintained in the range of + 15-22 ° С, at night - 12-17 ° С.

    From excess moisture, the roots begin to rot, so the soil is not waterlogged, watered along the edge of the container so that water does not accumulate near the roots. Use settled water at room temperature. A week after the appearance of the sprouts, they are fed with urea (½ tsp / 1 l), after 1-1.5 weeks - nitrophoska (1 tsp / 1 l).

    As soon as the seedlings have grown stronger, having reached about a month of age, they are planted on an open ridge or in a greenhouse. To provide access to light, not to let the air stagnate, 50-60 cm of free space is left between the bushes.
