If late-ripening varieties of vegetable and flower plants are planted on seedlings in February, then in March some cold-resistant crops can be sown immediately on an open ridge or in a greenhouse. Also, the month is suitable for sowing seedlings of mid-season and early varieties of flowers, garden plants. In order for the planting to be successful, it is necessary to prepare the seed material, soil (bed), containers in advance and choose the right time. The lunar sowing calendar of 2023 will help you navigate the dates, which indicates the phases of the moon, planting days favorable for sowing, planting, transplanting.

What to sow outdoors in March

The first month of spring is the time when cold-resistant vegetables and herbs are planted. For seeds to germinate, a temperature of +2 … +3 ° С is sufficient, and frosts down to -6 ° С are not terrible for seedlings. So that young greens and vegetables are constantly on the table, they sow with a conveyor, that is, with an interval of 7-10 days.

The culture is frost-resistant, low temperatures (+1 … +3 °С) are sufficient for germination. The shell of the grains is very dense, so soaking is necessary. First, 5-6 hours are kept in water at room temperature, then 5 minutes in hot (+50 ° C), then 1-2 hours in cold water. Depthplanting - 6-8 cm, spacing between plants - 10-12 cm, row spacing depends on the height of the plants (20 cm - for undersized, 35-50 cm - for tall ones).

Peas are planted on a bed prepared in autumn in the third decade. Peas, pre-soaked for 1-2 days, will sprout even at +4 … +7 ° C, and young sprouts will not suffer when the temperature drops to -6 ° C. If planted earlier, then the ridge must be covered. Planting depth - 3-4 cm, row spacing - 15-20 cm, spacing between plants - 5-6 cm.

Sow after the ridge is freed from snow, when the soil warms up to a depth of 5-7 cm. The ridge is shed with hot water, covered with a dark film - after 2-3 days it is ready. Only the seeds of the last year are suitable, since they have a short shelf life. Preparation consists in soaking for 1-2 days in a pink solution of manganese. The distance between the furrows is 25 cm, between the seeds is 1.5 cm, the embedment depth is 2-3 cm. Mulch is covered from above (1.5-2 cm).

Planting days come in the II-III decade of March, when the soil warms up to +5 … +8 °С. The place has been prepared since autumn, introducing humus when digging. Manure (fresh, rotted) cannot be used - its presence negatively affects the development and quality of the root crop. Sowing depth - 2.5-3 cm, distance between furrows - 18-20 cm, between seeds - 5 cm.

Without seedlings, you can immediately plant Beijing cabbage, lettuce, dill, spinach, radish, early varieties of carrots, beets in the greenhouse.

Seeds are used only fresh, i.e.e. last year, after culling low-quality ones (fill with water, low-quality ones will float). They sprout poorly and for a long time (about three weeks), so they are kept for 2-3 days in an ash solution, a growth stimulator. Depending on the climate, planting time falls on the II-III decade. Seeding depth - 2 cm, row spacing - 40 cm, distance between plants - 10-20 cm.

The culture is frost-resistant, sown already in mid-March, overseeding several times during the season. Seeds are kept in a pink solution of manganese for a day, then germinated. Seeding depth - 1 cm, row spacing - 15 cm, interval between plants - 2-3 cm.

When the air warms up to +10 … +15 ° С, they start planting, germinating the seeds in advance. Planting depth - 2-2.5 cm, on heavy soils - 1.5-2 cm, row spacing - 10-15 cm, spacing between plants - 5 cm. Until emergence, the ridge is kept under a film.

What to sow seedlings in March

The key to quality seedlings is the right timing of planting.

If planted early, the seedlings will stretch, weaken, if late, then they will have to be transplanted in the heat, which will affect adaptation and, then, the quality of the fruit. When calculating the sowing time, several factors must be taken into account:

    • duration of the growing season (each culture has its own);
    • age of seedling when it can be transplanted into the ground;
    • temperature requirements;
    • where the plant will be grown - ingreenhouse, greenhouse, open ridge;
    • when it is supposed to be harvested;
    • seed germination period;
    • climate of the area.

    To calculate the sowing date, subtract the time it takes the seedlings to reach the optimum age (indicated on the package) and the time for germination from the estimated date of planting in the ground. Each culture has its own indicators.

    The culture is thermophilic, so the seedlings are planted on the ridge after the daytime temperature is set to at least +15 ° C, when the threat of frost has passed. The period for planting seedlings falls in mid-March-April. Seeds better germinate.

    Since the seeds germinate for a long time, early-ripening varieties are planted already in the first decade. If you do this later, then flowering will come in August, and the fruits will not have time to ripen. In order not to injure the roots during a dive, two seeds are sown in separate containers, two seeds each. Then the weak sprout is removed. They are transferred to the ground 60-70 days after the emergence of sprouts.

    For an early harvest, sowing is done from mid-March to mid-April. Until sprouts appear, the containers are kept warm, then transferred to a cool place. They dive in the presence of 5-6 true leaves.

    Early varieties are sown during March to get young heads by the end of June. After germination, seedlings are kept in a cool room. Illumination is required, otherwise the plants will stretch, droop.

    Leek, Bulb

    Onion seedlings are started from the middle of the month. Seeds are germinated and planted in boxes to a depth of 1-1.5 cm with an interval of 5 cm. The boxes are kept in a cool, bright room. At the age of 6-8 weeks, the seedlings are moved to the ridge.

    In the first decade, seedlings of late-ripening tall varieties are planted, from the middle to the end of the month - mid-ripening varieties for unprotected soil. Picking tomatoes is only good, it is carried out in the presence of a pair of true leaves. To stimulate the formation of fibrous roots, pinch the main root.

    Lunar landing calendar for March 2023

    If you carry out planting work according to the lunar phases, then you need to take into account that plants that give fruits above the ground, spicy herbs are sown, planted, transplanted on the growing moon, root crops, bulbous crops on the waning moon. It is not recommended to carry out landing work on the new moon and full moon - these are unfavorable days.
